Research & InvestigationOne of the founding principles of the Friends of the Segovia Mint Association is to promote research and investigation on numismatics and related topics. Now, to help foster this goal, the Association is proud to announce the on-line presentation of our powerful search engine which will let visitors consult our extensive data base of files on historic documents in Spanish archives. All visitors are free to search our files for information, but only members have access to the signature of the actual document location in the archive, so why not join now! Enter search engine here: Members with password | All Others Our first data base made available on line is a selection of 6,136 individual files on documents from the Consejo y Juntas de Hacienda (C.J.H.) (Council and Assemblies of the Treasury) section of the Archivo General de Simancas (General Archive of Simancas). This important section containing original documents on coining and monetary policy of 16th and 17th century Spain, is composed of 1,705 document bundles which have been searched page by page by the renowned numismatic historian Glenn Murray, in a six year project sponsored by the Spanish Mint Foundation. The General Archive of Simancas is located in a 15th century castle (see photo) in the town of Simancas, 11 km from Valladolid, Spain. For more information about the archive and how to obtain photocopies of documents click here.
